Unpacking

Just wanted to check in and say we finally got our Comcast services and up and running. I'm typing this from my new home office, but we still have an incredible amount of things to unpack. Jennifer and myself will be posting pics as soon as we get the boxes cleaned up and things put away. It's been an exhausting last week, but entirely worth it. The new house is amazing, and we absolutely love it. My parents are flying in from Louisiana for Christmas, and we are really excited to show off our new house! I was able to get our media closet all wired up tonight and am delighted that everything worked out exactly as planned. No visible wires, cables boxes, etc...all neatly tucked away in the mud room closet. Awesome.

We Closed

We closed on our house at 9am this morning! The process was quick and painless only lasting about 35 minutes or so. After closing we stopped by our house and waited for Lowe's to show up with our refrigerator and washer/dryer. They had everything setup and installed shortly after lunch without a scratch on anything. Only took them about 40 minutes to get everything in place and they were very careful; so they earned a nice tip! Movers are meeting me at our storage units at 0800 to load up and get everything down to the new house. It's a little over an hour south of the storage units, so hopefully they make quick work of everything since they are charging an hourly rate. That's all I've got for now, but we will post a ton of pictures soon (hopefully from our new house) provided Comcast doesn't hold us back. Happy Building all!

Jinxed It!

Our closing was pushed back two days to Friday Decmeber, 14. They tried to push it back to Monday December 17, but I expressed how undesirable that was for us. After a call to our SR to let him know this was not going to work for us, NVR moved it up to the 14th. We have movers, appliances, cable, etc. already scheduled for the 14th and 15th, and we weren't willing to call and move all of that because NVR is so very indecisive. No real reason for delaying the closing other than the underwriter needed more time with the file. I will say NVR hasn't been overly terrible to deal with, nor have they been overly pleasant! We just want to be in our new house and unpacked before Christmas.

12/12/12

Around this time next week, we will be in the middle of closing on our house! I think 12/12/12 is a great day to close, should be easily remembered. We have Lowe's set to deliver our appliances on Friday and the movers slated for Saturday morning. The house was cleaned yesterday and the place looks great. Only a couple very minor things I see that need attention, but that's to be expected. Anyhow, I hope everyone is enjoying their build and having a fun holiday season thus far!

In the mean time, enjoy a picture of our (what we think is an) awesome shower! LOL

We found out about the dreaded white soap dish too late in the game to do much about it. It doesn't bother us too much!

Granite

Again, sorry for the terrible quality pictures. Was just a quick visit during lunch and only had my Blackberry to use for pics. Company is switching everyone over to the iPhone slowly but surely; can't happen fast enough, lol! The roofer and painters were also on hand changing out that metal roof to a thicker gauge material, painting the front door black, and painting all the trim, walls, etc...

12 Days

The title says it all. In 12 days we will officially own and be moving in our new home. The time really does fly by once you break ground and get the ball rolling. For all of you out there just beginning this journey, I know it takes (what feels like) an eternity to get started. Once you do, it will soar by! One thing I can't stress enough is visit often, and take loads and loads of photos. We had a couple instances where the photos helped bail us out of situations or prove a point when needed. I'm telling you, you cannot take enough photos of your house in various stages. Nike has told you, now I'm telling you...Just do it. I took a photo of a section of framing, and then the wall got sheet rocked and something was covered that shouldn't have been. The photo helped pinpoint where and what needed to be uncovered. Today was spent dealing with NVR and tying up any loose ends. Email after email was traded back in forth in what felt like a ping pong match providing documents and signing others. I think we are in the clear with them now, but it's never easy to tell with them.

Tomorrow we will be getting our granite installed, with the plumbers returning Monday. They will be installing our kitchen faucet and the other shower head/knob in the Roman shower. Also the powder room sink and any other last minute installations. Painters will be back to finish up a couple more times, and the house will have it's final inspection to obtain the C.O. by end of next week. I walked around in the house today during my lunch hour and it looks so amazing. It's going to be a real treat to stop home for lunch if I choose. Something I haven't been able to do in many years. Hard to believe this journey is coming to and end...Very thankful for the opportunity to be able to build this home and provide a great place for my family to grow. Happy building everyone, enjoy it!
