Does your PM contact you with updates?

I see many of you fellow Ryan Homes bloggers posting about updates you receive from your PM's regarding the status of your homes. Does everyone's PM contact them? How often do you hear from them if so? We have yet to get any kind of update from our PM at all...not even once. We do drive by daily when we are working, but we do not currently live near our Ryan home. We commute over an hour to work each day, thus the reason for building our new home. So it would be nice to get at the very least a weekly update on the current and upcoming progress. Let me know how often you hear from your PM!

  1. I got a call every Friday morning from our PM after he had been to the house. We would go over what was accomplished that week and what to expect the next week. We also lived an hour away from the build, so we only visited once a week. That was always on Friday afternoons, so I would email our PM on Mondays with my observations and questions from the visit. He would usually call me after he got the email to answer my questions. He was great with communication, but I see that's not always the case with other PMs. Do you have a phone number or email for your PM? Perhaps if you reach out to him and set something up for a weekly call or email, he might be willing.

    1. Hi Rachel! It sounds like you had a great PM! I have our PM's number and plan to call him today to ask him a few questions. I'm going to take your advise and try to set up a weekly update - Thanks! :-)

  2. We were supposed to have a weekly update by phone or email every Thursday. But what ended up happening is that we just talked to our PMs (there are 2), about once a week randomly. Sometimes we reached out to them; sometimes them to us. If you haven't heard from your PM, don't be afraid to call or email even if it's just to ask what the week's schedule is.

  3. Our PM calls every Friday to talk about what has been done and what will be done during the week. He has also called when unexpected things are going to occur (tree removal)

  4. Definitely set up some expectations and understanding of communication.

I liked the once a week conversation, however I set up an appointment on the important weeks in the building process so that I could speak face to face and see inside the house WITH the PM to address issues.(if Any)

    Enjoy!

  5. When we had our pre-construction meeting, our PM said he would provide weekly updates on Fridays. We received a voicemail every Friday afternoon (except when he was on vacation) with a quick recap of the week and then the plan for the following week. If we ever had a question, we could always call, text, e-mail, and even schedule an appointment. He was very accommodating -- hope yours will give you just the right amount of information and you were able to speak to him yesterday.

  6. Our Project Supervisor sends out emails every Friday, (our house started bulding only two weeks ago so it hasn't been a long time), but these are detailed emailes with pictures. Last Wednesday I sent out an email saying I was just curious about what's going on at the lot. Updates would be appreciated, pics would be appreciated even more. And the project manager sent a detailed email alongwith pictures :)
Don't hesitate in asking for communication.

  7. Thanks for all the replies everyone. It seems that most of you do get some sort of weekly update wether it be via phone or e-mail. My wife (Jennifer) sent our PM an e-mail and he replied with a phone call. He did answer all of our questions and filled us in on where we stand and what to expect in the next couple weeks. I wish I could say I like the guy more than I do, but the few times I've talked with him he acts as though we are annoying him. We are very laid back and easy to please, so this is extremely frustrating seeing as how we've had minimal contact thus far. What amazes me is how much they stress this survey we will complete upon closing and how they ALWAYS get 10's. I find that hard to believe...

  8. Our PM called us each Friday to let us know what happened during the week and what to expect during the next week. Then, he called if anything else came up or if we needed a call returned sooner.

  9. I had my pre-construction meeting last week and was told that I'd get updates weekly. I asked what his preferred method of contact was (email, phone) and he gave me some 800# where I could leave a voicemail and he'd give me a call back. Okay. I guess because he told me last week what would happen that's why I didn't get a call. It's another Friday though, so we'll see if I get an update for next week. So far...no 10s from me, except for my SR.

  10. I dont really get calls either, my PM has called me once.....I have called him 2x with questions and he calls me back, but he's not a give ya call kind of guy. When I stop by the lot is will run into him and that's how I know. But then again we havent starting even framing yet so not too much to tell me I guess...

My PM doesnt email or text, just phone calls...

  11. I'm having the same issue. If communication is on the survey, there is no way I'm putting a 10. It seems like everyone has gotten some sort of update at least bi-weekly if not weekly. We're coming up on day 30 & I hadn't heard from my PM until yesterday when I reached out to him about the framing blooper.
