This post is for Tech Mama! Here are the pictures of the capped wall. It's not what we thought we were getting, but we'll make do. It's not nearly as "grand", but Ryan homes says it wall have nice molding and trim. We shall see...
We took the wall too. Sometimes I like spindles, but I didn't think it was worth what they were charging, and I didn't like the wood & white combo effect, and the kids thing is a good point. I've kept my eye out for pictures since we were wondering how that would turn out and this is what I've found: Ravenna pics at http://ifyoucouldseewhatisee.blogspot.com/2012/03/ravenna-upstairs-hall-and-half-wall.html Naples, 1 pic out of a series: http://danandaliciaourblessedlittlefamily.blogspot.com/2012/07/build-day-55-in-pictures.html
Looks like my PM's point about climbing the outside of the railing would have applied to you, too! Gotta think about those kiddos ahead of time. :)
There are pros and cons to both ways...I would have liked railings at the bottom, where it juts out into the hallway, because railings don't block the view. But the capped wall isn't too bad. My brother's house has railings up both sides for most of the flight of stairs, and I really don't know how they intend to put baby gates up!
Thank you, Cody! This is not bad at all. You made a good point though when it comes to the baby gate. The capped wall should be much easier this way.
ReplyDeleteI meant that the baby gate will be easier to put up with the capped wall.
DeleteI think we are oddballs because we actually prefer the capped wall while everyone else prefers the railings.

Any updated finished pics? We're making this decision right now.
